The Origin of the Ball is a work based on the novel of the same name written by Heeseon Kim. Hanging on a wall in the Museum of Ball History, run by Park Heungsoo, head of the Goodman and Park Ball Company, one finds a photograph of an old man holding a soccer ball. Standing in front of this photograph, he begins to speak of the origin of the ball. Beginning from this small ball, the story transforms into an expansive history that holds a mix of countless events and characters. For this work, Yoorim Kim focuses on the fact that everything that we
encounter in daily life has another side to it that is unknown to us. In The Origin of the Ball, the story unfolds across time and space, following the movements of the ball.
Yoorim Kim is a creator who explores reasons for the dramatic play to exist, in the midst of a plethora of visual media. As well as pondering the irreplaceable experience of the space of the theater, Kim looks for stories that can best be communicated through dramatic form. Recently, Kim is invested in moving novels onto the stage, to give them the new shape of another world.
